There are some tiny hex head screws on the corner of each battery pack that has a small pin stand off in the center. A regular T-10 HEX bit will not work. You need the special kind that has a hole in the middle. You can find these very cheaply at Menards, Lowes and Home Depot. Remove the hex screws completely and seperate the pack.
Pics are linked at the bottom of the post. Of course, safety is extremely important when you're rebuilding such battery packs and use it normally and forget about it. On my later rebuilds I mimic basically all wirings as out of the factory to keep them as safe as they were out of the factory.
If it's connected with a thru hole wire, it's the easiest - just pick a sufficiently long wire and double up the wiring from the bottom of the thru hole to another place on the battery that has the same polarity. This way you can disconnect the original wire from the battery end and reuse the wire.
Once you made sure it charges and discharges properly, organise the wires to make them resemble as much like out of the factory as possible, tape up the thermal probe to the right place, put liquid adhesive on the side of the battery that originally had adhesive.
