Customer ServiceCountries worldwide are renewing or adapting their political strategies for battery technologies. In this context, a new Fraunhofer ISI report is analysing the different battery policies and targets with focus on three fields of battery technology research: Lithium-ion, solid-state, and alternative batteries.
Main Actors and Initiatives The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is one of the most relevant political actor in the field of battery research, with funding ranging from basic to appli- cation-oriented along the battery value chain from materials to battery systems (also including transfer and upscaling).
With it´s global positioning along the battery value chain and geografically across the globe (with stronger focus on Asia and Europe), China howe- ver does not seem to fear a relevant impact on it´s battery industry – at least in the short to mid term.
In this context, an international comparison between the different battery policy strategies of the leading countries is helpful – and now part of a new Fraunhofer ISI study entitled »Benchmarking International Battery Policies«.
All countries have rather recent strategies – and there are constantly further updates, such as the Dachkonzept (BMBF, DE 2023), the Battery Industry Strategy (METI, JP 2023) and the National Strategy for Strengthening the Competitiveness of the Secondary Battery Industry (MOTIE, KR 2023). An update of the SRIA is also planned in 2023/2024.
