The capacitor bank can operate at 50 Hz and at 200 Hz. It operates at 200Hz for induced-voltage tests on transformers and shunt reactors; and works at 50Hz for Temperature-rise tests, measurements of load loss and short-circuit impedance. Take shunt reactor induced-voltage as an example.
When testing with DC voltage, the metered voltage must be set for a voltage equal to 1.414 times the AC test voltage, since the AC voltage measurement is an RMS value. The actual peak voltages from the AC wave are 1.414 times the metered AC RMS value. Thus, the DC test voltage is equal to the highest peak AC voltage.
Generally, the withstand voltage (Vt) and the rise time (Tr) testing of aluminum oxide foil follows EIAJ RC-2364A standard, to drive a constant current (0.5mA, 1mA or 2mA, depending on the type of the foil) to test. The needed constant charge current is very low, and the permitted tolerance of the current is very small (±0.05mA).
